Desert Thunder first opened its doors in 2004. The preschool through eighth grade campus is proud to have a dual language immersion program where students learn in English and Spanish throughout the school day. Desert Thunder is proud to be an “A” rated school in Goodyear, Arizona.

At Desert Thunder School, we proudly adhere to the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) philosophy—a proactive, research-based framework designed to promote positive behavior, improve school climate, and increase academic success for all students.

Our Soaring Eagle Matrix is a school-wide plan collaboratively developed by our staff. It establishes a clear, consistent set of expectations and procedures for behavior across all areas of the campus. This common language supports alignment among all grade levels and helps ensure every student knows what is expected of them throughout the school day.

PBIS emphasizes the importance of teaching behavioral expectations just as we teach academic content. By clearly defining these expectations and providing consistent, predictable, and respectful responses—both for reinforcing positive behaviors and addressing missteps—we create a safe and welcoming environment for every student.

When students feel valued, respected, and safe, they are better able to focus on learning and growing. Every Desert Thunder staff member is committed to upholding the Soaring Eagle Matrix with dignity and equity, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
